Red Flags to Look Out for When Choosing a Business Coach

You’ve decided you want a business coach but how do you know who to go for? We’ve put together a list of red flags to look out for when choosing a business coach to help you choose.

You Don’t Like ThemBusiness Coach with a client.

It’s important that you get on with your business coach. You will be spending a lot of time with this person so if you don’t like them, chances are you won’t achieve the goals you want.

Hiring a coach that you don’t get on with is a waste of time and money. It won’t take long for both parties to realise that it doesn’t work, you then have to spend time finding a new coach.

They don’t have to be your best friend, but they do have to have similar vision to you and a personality that inspires you and you get on with.

Infrequent Meetings

Another red flag to look out for when choosing a business coach is if they don’t meet with you on a regular basis. How are they meant to know if you’re improving if they don’t meet with you?

Depending on your business goals, a good coach should be meeting with you on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

Your coach is there to hold you accountable, if they are not seeing you regularly then they probably aren’t doing that. Being held accountable is a major part of business coaching so if your coach isn’t doing that, it’s time to get a new one.

Personal Relationship

Working with friends or family could sound like a good idea but having that close personal relationship could also be problematic.

Business coaches act as an unbiased, outside opinion that help businesses achieve their goals. A personal relationship with your coach could mean that their opinion is biased.

Dodgy Backgrounds

A major red flag to look for when choosing a business coach is if they have a dodgy background.

You should be able to google a business coach and learn about their past business experience, how good a business coach they are and generally just a bit about them.

If you have a suspicion they’re a bit dodgy, they probably are.

No Testimonials

Our final reg flag to look for when choosing a coach is if they have no testimonials.

As well as being able to google your potential coach, you should also be able to see their reviews and testimonials.

A great way to see if this person is a good fit for you is to read other people’s opinions.

Google reviews and video testimonials are a good place to start. You will be able to hear past and current clients’ opinions on how good or not so good the business coach is.

The more testimonials they have, the more likely they are to be a good coach.
